Josh and Thomas are on their way to Texas when they run in to Muley. Since Muley is a little bit slow, Josh tells him that they will take care of him. Muley proclames that he can take care of himself, after all, he brought money to buy land and food, three dollars and fifty- two cents! Later when they meet Stephen F. Austin, they tell him that Muley is with them after Muley says he brought his own money and tells Austin exactly how much that is. Muley is what makes the book funny in times when it would otherwise be serious.
Muley is awesome!!
Muley's cluelessness is hilarious. For example, when Josh, Thomas, and Muley meet Lige and his friends, they realize that they are trying to rob them. Thomas and Josh tell Muley to stay at the wagon while they went to kill Lige. Muley lets Lige steal a horse whenhe shows up at their camp after osh and Thomas have killed everyone except Lige. He said he wanted to watch them and help. Muley tries so hard to be just like Josh, and it is so sweet!
